Mad about Mid Century Mobler

Mid Century Mobler is a furniture showroom located in San Francisco’s Mission District. I stopped in recently at the recommendation of my friend and fellow mid century enthusiast, Karolina. She posted a photo on her Instagram page similar to the one above and it instantly shot a dose of I gotta see it in person right into my bloodstream.

Why Is Mid Century Furniture Timeless & Still Popular Today

Styles tend to come and go but there are some styles which remain timeless and even seem to gain in popularity as the years go by. This is especially true when it comes to home furnishing, as many of us choose these furnishings, not only around what is popular but by what is going to remain popular in our eyes for quite some time.

Where Are They Now: Mid-Century Møbler

In our inaugural edition, we check in with Mid-Century Møbler. When we first met them, in March of 2011, Julian and Gabe were selling furniture out of a garage near Duboce Triangle. But not anymore. Where are they now? As it turns out, they’ve relocated to a huge space at 1220 Shotwell Street, between 26th and Cesar Chavez in the Mission. The new showroom has been open since late February.

A Warehouse Worth: Remarkable Retro Furniture from Mid Century Mobler

Just how far a passion for discovering covetable design can take you depends on how far you’re willing to go to get it. At least, that’s what Julian Goldklang had in mind when, last year, he took the leap from his modest garage operation, using all his savings to fly to Europe to collect pieces to bring back to the Bay Area. Luckily, his fascination with mid-century furniture has proven to be a success: now housed in a 5000-square-foot warehouse in the Mission, Mid Century Mobler is the largest mid-century furniture dealer in Northern California.

Vintage Furniture: Mid-C Modern Dressers & Credenzas

While the terms ‘antique’ and ‘vintage’ are often used interchangeably, generally speaking, ‘vintage’ refers to furniture that is less than 100 years old and ‘antique’ refers to pieces that are over 100 years old. That being the case, vintage furniture covers everything from Art Deco, to Hollywood Regency to the Eighties to today’s most popular vintage style - Mid-Century Modern.

Researching the best of the city is like panning for gold—it's back-breaking work. It takes marathon Bhangra dancing, eating enough fried chicken sandwiches to kill a horse, getting up before dawn to check out a sunrise view, and trying on endless pairs of designer shoes. Someone's got to do it. We're just happy it's us.
