Pam Kueber Explains "Mid-Century Modest"

Everyone knows what mid-century modern is and most people strive to acquire as many mid-century modern pieces as they can &mdash regardless of the type of home they have. There's certainly nothing wrong with it, but it's refreshing when there's someone who suggests an idea; that to some of us, isn't so obvious.

Vintage Views: Mid Century Mobler

Mid Century Mobler is a vintage furniture store in San Francisco specializing in Danish and American mid-century modern furniture. Well, a store that currently runs out of shipping containers to keep costs (and prices) down, which also adds an air of chic and exclusivity to the situation, like that secret bar that doesn't have a sign.

Inside Mid Century Mobler's Goldmine of a Furniture Warehouse

Just how far a passion for discovering covetable design can take you depends on how far you’re willing to go to get it. At least, that’s what Julian Goldklang had in mind when, last year, he took the leap from his modest garage operation, using all his savings to fly to Europe to collect pieces to bring back to the Bay Area.

Mid Century Lounge Chairs Are Making A Style Comeback

In the middle of the last century, a furniture trend began to develop which took a more modernistic view to design. This was seen in all aspects of the furniture, including in the lines and the profiles, which made it unique to its day. One of the pieces of furniture which was often a mainstay of the living area in those days was the lounge chair. That is also true today, and many people are still enjoying mid century lounge chairs in their homes. Why is the style making a comeback?

Meet Gabe and Julian, the Duo Behind Mid Century Møbler

One of the things we love most about working on Haighteration is getting to meet Lower Haight residents who are doing really interesting stuff. Such was the case recently when we had a garage-side chat with Gabe Magana and Julian Goldklang.

Mid Century Møbler Talks About Broyhill Sculptra

A while back Mid Century Møbler was kind enough to let me post their photos of a Broyhill Sculptra room divider. Some Broyhill Sculptra furniture also makes an appearance in the photos of the Haighteration piece.

The Features of Mid-Century Furniture

When talking about mid-century furniture, people are typically referring to the period of the 1950s, but the artistic style even extends into the 1960s. The period is artistically interesting as it employs features and some aesthetic principles of the earlier Art Deco period, but it also employs novel touches of its own modern sensibilities that continue to captivate people who collect furniture and furnishings from this era.

Modern Danish Furniture for a Hip Vintage Look

Modern Danish furniture, more popularly known in the U.S. as mid-century furniture, boasts a retro style that is surprisingly suited for contemporary homes. With its sleekly stylized looks, the modern Danish influence pairs well with many urban-chic abodes or households that appreciate a great vintage look. If you aren't impressed with stocky, overstuffed furniture styles, the sophisticated appeal of mid-century furnishings might be the perfect vintage look for your home.

Hidden Inscription on Old Sofa Unites Family with Forgotten Furniture

Greetings All!

I wanted to share this great story I came across about an antique couch returning to its original owner thanks to a hidden inscription left decades ago. Stories like these are why I love dealing in antiques so much, you never know where the piece has been and what stories they hold. I hope you enjoy the story as much as I did!

Mad about Mid Century Mobler

Mid Century Mobler is a furniture showroom located in San Francisco’s Mission District. I stopped in recently at the recommendation of my friend and fellow mid century enthusiast, Karolina. She posted a photo on her Instagram page similar to the one above and it instantly shot a dose of I gotta see it in person right into my bloodstream.

Styles tend to come and go but there are some styles which remain timeless and even seem to gain in popularity as the years go by. Where Are They Now: Mid-Century Møbler

In our inaugural edition, we check in with Mid-Century Møbler. When we first met them, in March of 2011, Julian and Gabe were selling furniture out of a garage near Duboce Triangle. But not anymore. Where are they now? As it turns out, they’ve relocated to a huge space at 1220 Shotwell Street, between 26th and Cesar Chavez in the Mission. The new showroom has been open since late February.

Vintage Furniture: Mid-C Modern Dressers & Credenzas

While the terms ‘antique’ and ‘vintage’ are often used interchangeably, generally speaking, ‘vintage’ refers to furniture that is less than 100 years old and ‘antique’ refers to pieces that are over 100 years old. That being the case, vintage furniture covers everything from Art Deco, to Hollywood Regency to the Eighties to today’s most popular vintage style - Mid-Century Modern.
